Guava Preserves (Printable)

Luscious, thick tropical guava spread perfect for toast, cheese pairings, or dessert fillings. Sweet and aromatic.

# What You Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1.5 kg ripe guavas, about 10-12 medium guavas

→ Sweetener

02 - 700 g granulated sugar, about 3.5 cups

→ Acidity

03 - 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

→ Water

04 - 1 cup water

# Directions:

01 - Wash guavas thoroughly, cut into quarters, and remove seeds using a spoon while reserving as much flesh as possible.
02 - Place guava flesh and water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until fruit is soft.
03 - Mash the softened guavas with a potato masher or blend briefly for a smoother consistency.
04 - Press the mixture through a fine sieve or food mill to remove remaining seeds and obtain smooth pulp.
05 - Return pulp to saucepan. Add sugar and lemon juice, stirring well to combine thoroughly.
06 - Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.
07 - Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring frequently for 35-45 minutes until mixture reaches jam-like consistency. Test by placing a small amount on a chilled plate; if it wrinkles when pushed, it is ready.
08 - Skim off any foam that rises to the surface as needed.
09 - Pour hot preserves into sterilized jars, leaving 0.25 inch headspace. Seal immediately and let cool. Refrigerate for up to 3 months or process in boiling water bath for extended storage.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • Pure Tropical Flavor: Uses ripe guavas to create a sweet and aromatic spread without artificial additives.
  • Perfect Texture: Thick and jam-like, ideal for spreading, filling, or serving with savory elements.
  • Long-Lasting: Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 months or processed for even longer storage.
02 -
  • Consistency Check: Always use the chilled plate test to verify the set; the jam should wrinkle when pushed with a finger.
  • Safety First: Ensure your glass jars are thoroughly sterilized before filling to maintain freshness for the full 3 months.
  • Constant Stirring: As the mixture thickens, it becomes more prone to sticking, so increase the frequency of stirring towards the end of the cook time.
